I work for a University as an Academic. In this country, we address our colleagues with title and Surname in all official meetings (Say Dr. (Prof.) Hisinamtodzi, or even Prof. His).

However, when a meeting is done via MS Teams these days, we are not seeing the title of the staff member in the user's list. Since our institution is wide spread in the province, it is impractical to know the titles of all staff members in a meeting. Especially when you chair a meeting, you address a Prof. or a Dr. as Mr. or Mrs., it is considered awkward and disrespectful. I also see that there is an argument that Prof. is a job title, not a honorific. But Dr., Mr. etc. are honorifics to accompany a person to a life time once awarded , not a job title.

Can this feature be added to all MS Office profiles ? Or if this is possible as of now, kindly advise, I can then take it up with the account admin.

Thank you and best regards

Dr. Hassan

My name is Daniel. I am an Independent Advisor.

The admin can manage members' contact info from the backend, admin can add the actual name, display name or job title. (see screenshot).

- Please ask the admin to visit this link: https://admin.microsoft.com/#/users

  • Select the member > account tab > select manage contact information
  • The same thing can be applied to regular guest (not anonymous guest) as explained in the following article: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/for...

    Hi Daniel

Thank you for your kind support. But please note the Job titles are different from title of a person (honorifics like Dr., Ms., Mr. etc.). Job titles are not displayed along with the names of a person, our Admin has in fact added our personal honorific titles as job titles but its not helping. In teams meeting, what we see is still the First Name and Surname only.

    Best regards

Apparently, that's what available as of today, the only you can do to meet or at least close enough to meet your need is, by optimizing the display name.

However, as fellow MS Team users, I do believe this is indeed an important suggestion to be considered by the developer team. I invite you to submit a feature request or suggestions for improvements to the developer team: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/

Please note, this is a peer-to-peer support forum meaning I'm just fellow regular MS Team forum users like you who are trying to help other MS Team forum users with their MS Team issue. So in this case, I'm Non-Microsoft Staff I don't have access to your account nor I'm authorized to do so. I hope we can have a mutual understanding from the beginning to avoid misunderstanding.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Daniel

Thank you very much for your assistance. I have emailed our admin regarding the customization of display name. It is unfortunate that display name cannot be customized from the user settings.

    Best regards
